This is the story of the Skinwalker Ranch Mystery, an area of approximately 480 acres of land located southeast of the town of Ballard, Utah. For years hardly anyone went near it and those who did rarely talked about it. Skinwalker Ranch, named after the Native American legend of a skinwalker shape shifting being, is the site of over 50 years of paranormal activity, and yet to this day, nothing has been proven. Although everyone KNOWS something is odd about the place, there’s nothing concrete that can be proven beyond a doubt.

A Very Strange Occurrence
Reports of dog and cattle mutilations are numerous and in attempt to determine if any of these were true, a “bait” stall was set up with cattle. Investigators observed from a distance during the night time in hopes of identifying abnormal activity. Nothing was reported by observers. When morning came, they opened the stall to the sight of cattle stacked against each other like cordwood, seemingly in a kind of hypnotized condition. Nothing has been reported since then about the ongoing condition of the cattle.
The Bullet Proof Wolf
A creature said to exist in and around Skinwalker Ranch is a “bulletproof wolf” sighted from time to time. This entity is given this name because he’s been shot by several expert marksmen but seems never to be hit. It’s reported that he also is seen walking upright like a man. He disappears after a sighting only to reappear later in another place. People have reported magnetic portals that seem to beckon one to enter.
Caves and Buildings
Skinwalker Ranch, previously known as Sherman Ranch, was owned by Terry and Gwen Sherman. There are two caves on the ranch; one is 4 to 5 feet tall and reaches about 15 feet deep into the mesa. I could find nothing about the dimensions of the other, only that it exists. Besides the ranch house, there’s an abandoned house on the property, which seems to draw a lot of strange beings and paranormal activities.
In one instance, the body of a still-warm calf was found with the rectum cored out and no blood visible on the scene. The calf had been seen by the ranch’s owner at that time, Terry Sherman, only moments before. There were disappearances of cattle, and no, they didn’t wander off to the neighboring property. They simply disappeared never to be seen again. The final act that caused the Shermans to no longer live on the ranch, was when three of their dogs chased blue lights into the woods and never came back. The next day they tracked the dogs and found three greasy blobs on the grass. The couple feared for the safety of their children and decided it was time to leave. They put the ranch up for sale, but didn’t want anyone buying it to be endangered. A man expressed interest because he was interested in outer space and the possibility of alien life. That man was Robert Bigelow, who now owns the ranch. Bigelow is the founder and owner of Bigelow Aerospace. Is it possible some of the UFO sightings, strange humming noises and other unexplained occurrences are what convinced him to buy the place?
Investigative Reporter George Knapp
Skinwalker Ranch, has been investigated and the results documented by MUFON (Mutual Unidentified Flying Object Network), NIDS (Network Intrusion Detection Systems) , and individual investigators, such as writer and television journalist George Knapp. Nothing has ever been proved, but these agencies or Knapp could tell you, if they would, there’s definitely something odd going on out there.
Journalist and Investigative Reporter George Knapp earned five regional Edward R. Murrow awards and a national Edward R. Murrow award for his investigative stories on the voter registration fraud in the Clark County election of 2004.
Knapp won the prestigious Peabody Award twice and 19 Emmy Awards. He is the winner nine times of the Mark Twain Award for best news writing from the Associated Press. In 1990, his series about UFOs was selected by United Press International as best in the nation for Individual Achievement by a Journalist.
